Reckoning with Torture video project

NRCAT (National Religious Campaign Against Torture) has designated June as Torture Awareness Month. As part of its participation in related events, Amnesty Group 432 members will make a video of their public readings of documents from the Reckoning with Torture Project

The event will take place Wednesday, May 30, at 7:30pm at Schuylkill Friends Meeting, 37 N. Whitehorse Road, Phoenixville, PA 19640 (Google Map).

Reckoning with Torture: Memos and Testimonies from the "War on Terror" is a public education program designed to draw attention to the torture and abuse of detainees in U.S. custody. The ACLU and the PEN American Center have been sponsoring public readings of these documents and are encouraging individuals and groups to film their own readings and to upload videos to the Reckoning with Torture website.  An anthology of these videos will be compiled and posted online. Hosting a local event that brings attention to the torture and abuse of detainees since 9/11 will help build support for a full investigation of the torture program and ensure that such atrocities are not repeated again.
