Report on February 2016 meeting in Philadelphia of local AIUSA groups

The AIUSA Philadelphia City hosted a meeting of local AIUSA groups on Saturday, 27 February, at the University of Pennsylvania. This meeting was convened by Savannah Fox (AIUSA Mid-Atlantic field organizer) and by student activist coordinators

Chelsea Inglis, Becky McCarty, Mara Domider, and Cora Neumann. This day-long program provided training and in-depth information on current AIUSA campaigns, and fostered a sense of solidarity among members of local AIUSA groups.

  • Julie Gallagher (AIUSA legislative coordinator for PA) gave a presentation on how to conduct a successful legislative visit.
  • Kathleen Lucas (AIUSA area coordinator for central and eastern PA) presented via Skype and reviewed AIUSA policy on immigrants’ rights.
  • Current campaigns against gun violence and on increasing the accountability of the police were also discussed.
  • Savannah Fox enumerated the many activist resources that AIUSA makes available to members (such as letter-writing kits, pamphlets, and research reports).
  • Nickson Oguto (coordinator of the Cedar Crest College group) invited everyone to participate in the Rally for Peace in Burundi in Allentown, PA, on March 19.
  • David Rendell (coordinator of the Cherry Hill, NJ group) encouraged everyone to participate in Get on the Bus 2016 on 8 April in New York City.
